In the name of Allah ,the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful

When is Eid al Fitr and what to do about Eid prayer during covid-19 lockdown?

Eid al Fitr will be on Sunday 24th of May 2020. However in India, South Asia and far Eastern countries it may be a day later. Brothers and Sisters from thsoe countries should check with their local Masjids

Due to Covid-19 Eid prayer cannot be prayed in large gatherings. So Muslims should pray Eid Prayer at home.

There are several scholarly views concerning that. Some said that he should offer this prayer with two rak‘ahs, and others said that it should be four rak‘ahs.

And some said that it should be offered in the usual manner, which is the best view.

What that means is that it should be offered with two rak‘ahs and the extra takbeeraat, the recitation should be done out loud, it should be made up in the manner in which it is usually done, and it may be offered individually or in congregation.

The evidence for that is what Anas ibn Maalik (may Allah be pleased with him) used to do. If he missed the Eid prayer, he would gather his family and his sons, then his freed slave ‘Abdullah ibn Abi ‘Utbah would lead them in praying two rak‘ahs, saying the takbeeraat, like the prayer and takbeeraat of the people of the city.

Since many Muslims live with their families so a male in the family  can lead them in congregation..

Some Scholars say he can also perform the Eid khutbah if he is able to do so otherwise just the salah. Eid khutbah can even be very basic so he should not be afraid to do the khutbah.
